| FSM states no more than I believe .008-.012 max allowable to be removed from the deck surfaces as a total. Obviously you can mill more just so long as you have adjustable cam gears and a thicker headgasket to compensate for the reduced deck height. The varied thicknesses in head gasket allows you to make up that difference. So the head gaskets offer two benefits with varied thicknesses available. A few thousandths off from the deck surfaces have huge changes in cam centerline orientation. This is where phasing plays a big role in setting up camshafts properly. Even with my Genesis cams you require to phase the cams in as the centerline when ground is advanced. Theres plenty of P to V clearance so decking won't cause too much of a concern of valve interference so long as you time the engine correctly. I would be doing some math to figure out how much left you are in the hole with how much lower the center line is dropped compared to stock. From that point you can dial the cams back in. As for the slack, the stock belt is very forgiving. I like using the gates belts as they are thicker and dont stetch as much and retain better form over the OE units.
